Academy of Architecture for Justice Bay Area

The Academy of Architecture for Justice Bay Area (AAJBA) is a local chapter of AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice Knowledge Community. AAJBA promotes and fosters the exchange of information and knowledge between members, professional organizations, and the public for high-quality planning, design, and delivery of justice architecture. The AAJBA sponsors monthly presentations, typically at the AIASF office, and tours of regional justice projects.

    The Changing Criminal Justice System: New Design Solutions Required (1.5 HSWs)

    In California and throughout the country, the criminal justice system is in turmoil. Part of the problem is economical, part is political, and part is the recognition that we can’t build our way out of the problem. New solutions are needed, and this panel of recognized justice thought leaders believes architects can and should be key partners in designing those solutions. Panelists will touch on:

    • Incarceration alternatives
    • Increased family and social connections
    • How design affects solutions
