Hupomone Ranch

Merit Award

Hupomone Ranch is a LEED Platinum house designed to reflect the owner's commitment to sustainable farming and draw on the natural serenity of the site. The simple grounded form of the barn is sited to capture the long southern views to the pool and coastal range beyond.

The jury noted that with a skillful nod to traditional California Vernacular this modern LEED Platinum home utilizes natural heating and cooling exceeding Title 24 requirements by more than 90%. These are spaces that are scaled well and invite inhabitation. The project is beautifully sited; the simple white volumes make a powerful counterpoint to the expansive site. The subtle contrast of lightness to landscape still feels tactile and warm.
